about

Hi, my name is Madelyn.

I’ve been engaged with healing for as long as I can remember, and have dedicated my life to exploring this fascinating aspect of human experience.

While I used to seek healing through dancing, being alone in nature, & connecting with animals, these solitary activities only got me so far when it came to working through relational trauma. Because we are an exquisitely interdependent, relational species, deep healing occurs when we feel seen & held by a resonant, compassionate other. Therapy offers a space to witness & be witnessed in newly creative ways.

My lens is wide and inclusive, always taking into account a person’s broader sociocultural context, experiences of marginalization & privilege, and ways of relating to earth, family, spirituality and community.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Artez University of the Arts in the Netherlands in dance & choreography. Through living & working abroad as a professional dancer, I gained a palpable experience of cultural humility & invaluable perspectives on U.S. life and culture. I also reached my limits and experienced boundary transgressions, traumatic loss, and creative burnout. This experience led me to seek out somatic therapy, which helped me find my way back through the forest.

Pursuing my Master’s degree in Somatic Counseling Psychology from the California Institute for Integral Studies (CIIS) affirmed the importance of holding a liberation & social justice lens within the therapy room. As indigenous artist, activist, and academic Lilla Watson said, “If you have come here to help me you are wasting your time, but if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.” I understand therapy in this way: your healing is mine, my liberation is inextricably tied to yours.

I’m passionate about learning alongside others who are curious about their own path, with the belief that personal growth & healing can contribute to social, collective change.
